The City of
Manning has long had the reputation for achieving what many
people thought couldn’t be achieved. It has become a model
for economic development and entrepreneurship for other
small rural communities to follow. This is evidenced by the
city being one of just two communities in Iowa to receive
the 2004 Capital Communities Award from the Federal Home
Loan Bank. In addition, the city recently hosted the
Community Vitality Center’s Iowa Entrepreneurship Academy in
October 2005 and received another award based upon its
progressive actions.
But perhaps
the most important component of Manning’s success where
other small towns of similar size has failed is the
commitment residents have toward maintaining a vibrant
healthcare community. The Manning Regional Healthcare Center
drives the local economy of the region by employing more
than 165 employees.
Manning,
Iowa, is located on state highway 141 in the southwest
corner of Carroll County, 90 miles north and west of Des
Moines, 80 miles north and east of Omaha and 80 miles south
and east of Sioux City.
