West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation
How You Can Help
Take Action — Give Time — Give Gifts
By Taking Action
The West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation understands that not everyone is able to make financial gifts. We are constantly striving for ways people can help support our cause through action. Below are several ways you can help the Foundation without spending a penny.
Things you can do include:
- Organize your own fundraiser and make West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation the beneficiary of your proceeds.
- Share information about our mission and activities with others who are also committed to quality healthcare.
- Tell us your idea of how we may better serve our communities’ healthcare needs.
By Giving Time
You can also donate your time to one of our projects. The Foundation is always looking for assistance with our programs and fundraisers. This may include helping with our semi-annual newsletters or at our annual golf tournament. Look on our Volunteer page to see what volunteer opportunities are coming up.
By Giving Gifts
The most common donations are financial gifts, such as cash or a check, which the West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation receives immediately. These can include a gift in memory of a loved one or to honor a special person. In some circumstances, gifts-in-kind also are donated, whether they be items for use at the Foundation, items donated for use at fundraising events or services rendered with no charge.
Sometimes financial gifts are given during a fundraising campaign, such as the annual Dream Lights program. Some gifts are given when the timing is right for the individual giver. The West Central Healthcare Foundation also accepts pledges. Pledges are a promise to give, and the advantage is that you receive immediate recognition, but make payments over two or more years.
But many times, people want to hold on to their money and other assets for now, just to be sure they can meet their family’s future financial needs. These people are usually delighted to learn that we have excellent alternatives that allow them to make a gift.
Planned Giving
One of these options could be right for you. These gifts are known as “planned” gifts. They can be revocable – a charitable bequest in your will, for example – so that you can change your mind at any time.
Planned gifts also can be irrevocable (just as outright gifts are), so that you benefit from an immediate income tax deduction. The attraction of irrevocable planned gifts is that they are deferred. You part with an asset today, but the actual giving of the asset to the West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation is put off for a while – often until after your lifetime (and that of a surviving beneficiary, if you wish). During the time in between, you receive benefits from the gift. The key feature of planned gifts like these is that they allow you, the donor, to benefit as well as the Foundation.
We are here to answer any questions you might have about planned giving. We can examine your particular situation and, together with your attorney and/or your financial advisors, help you find ways to support our mission while, at the same time, assuring your family’s financial security.
No matter which method works best with your personal situation, the professional staff at the West Central Iowa Healthcare Foundation stand ready to help you in the process of making an appropriate and satisfying gift.
