With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Woods provides medical and surgical care to women regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and disorders of the reproductive system. This includes preventive care, the detection of sexually transmitted diseases, Pap test screening, and family planning services.

Dr. Woods is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. He is also board-certified in Obesity Medicine.

Passionate about lobbying for women’s health care policy, Dr. Woods has received several honors for his work in medicine, including the John McCain Fellowship from the American College of OB/GYN and the ACOG Leadership Program in Women’s Health Policy. He was also chosen to serve as a Fellow for the Department of Health and Human Services Primary Health Care Policy in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Woods received his B.A. in biology from Knox College in Illinois. He completed his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Illinois and his residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He’s a dedicated husband and father of eight daughters.

The OB-GYN Clinic is available the 2nd Wednesday of every month.

Kendra Tiefenthaler received her LPN and RN license from Iowa Central Community College. In 2019, she decided to pursue her BSN and graduated from Capella University. She has now been a nurse for over ten years and has worked at North Central Correctional Facility, St. Anthony Home Health and Hospice, and currently works as a Clinical Coordinator in Wound Care for RestorixHealth.

She works at three hospitals regularly, including MRHC, and she fills in at two other clinics when needed.

Dr. Steven Stokesbary, M.D., FAAOS, a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, with The Center for Neurosciences, Orthopedics & Spine (CNOS), provides orthopedic services in Manning on the second and fourth Tuesday every month. He specializes in total knee and hip replacement, sports medicine, and arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Stokesbary also offers knee ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repairs, treatment for chronic and acute pain, carpal tunnel release, ulnar nerve transposition and trigger finger release.

Dr. Stokesbary, often known as “Stokes”, attained his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and doctorate degree from the University of Iowa. He spent his Residency in Orthopedics at the University of Missouri-Columbia and started his practice in Sioux City in 1998 and has been with CNOS since.

He and his wife of eight years, Kim, have four kids together. He lives a very active lifestyle with his hobbies including golf, skiing, and scuba diving.

Dr. Smith, D.O., FACOS, is a Board-Certified general surgeon. He provides a variety of surgical services every Monday in Manning.

Dr. Smith graduated with honors from the University of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines and completed his general surgery residency at Des Moines General Hospital, where he was appointed chief surgery resident from 1998 to 1999.

Dr. Smith holds membership to numerous associations including the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association, Carroll County Medical Association, and Iowa Medical Society. Dr. Smith and his wife have five children and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including snow skiing, fishing and scuba diving.

Hollie Schechinger is a mental health provider offering counseling services in Manning three days a week. In addition to providing mental health services for the general community, Schechinger works with Recovery Center inpatient clients two days a week.

A 2009 Coon Rapids-Bayard graduate, Schechinger received a social work degree from Briar Cliff University in 2013. She received her master’s in social work with a focus in mental health and trauma from the University of Denver.

Dr. Eric Jensen, D.P.M., specializes in palliative foot care and foot and ankle surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and offers a variety of podiatry services every Tuesday in Manning.

Dr. Jensen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1989. In 1993, he earned his podiatry degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa. He did his residency in Podiatric Surgery at the J.L. Pettis VA Memorial Hospital in Loma Linda, California in 1994.

He is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Iowa Podiatric Medical Association. He is also an Examining Board Member on the Iowa Board of Podiatric Examiners.

Pain Clinic

Brian Jacobs, MS, CRNA, NSPM-C, from the Midwest Pain Care Clinic, provides support to the Pain Clinic at MRHC once a month.

Brian received his anesthesia training at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and completed his fellowship in advanced pain management at Texas Christian University. He is currently a PhD student and fellow in pain and associated symptoms research at the University of Iowa. Brian also provides clinical training opportunities for pain fellows from Texas Christian University, the University of South Florida, and Iowa’s Premier Pain Management externship.

His clinical interests include interventional pain management and treatment of nociplastic pain disorders. His research interests include neuroimaging in pain, biomarkers in nociplastic pain disorders, and symptoms of neurogenic inflammation.

Dr. David Denman, M.D., FACS, began providing ENT services at MRHC in 2020 and is board certified in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Denman offers adult and pediatric ENT services to address problems occurring within the ear, nose, and throat.

Dr. Denman graduated with Distinction from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Following college, he attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, receiving a Master of Physical Therapy and M.D., graduating with High Distinction from both programs. He earned Regent Scholarships for both the College of Allied Health and College of Medicine and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology and served as Chief Resident at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

His professional memberships include the following: Diplomate American Academy of Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, Fellow American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, Inc., American College of Surgeons, American Rhinologic Society, and Metro Omaha Medical Society.

When not practicing medicine, he likes to spend time with his family. He is an avid runner and has competed in numerous marathons including the Boston Marathons and Ultra Marathon.

Dr. Bourne, M.D., FACS, diagnoses and treats diseases of the urinary tract in men, women, and pediatric patients. He can also diagnose and treat issues involving the reproductive tract in men. He offers urology services every other  Tuesday in Manning. Dr. Bourne is a board-certified surgeon who has passed a thorough evaluation of both professional competence and ethical fitness to be named a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Dr. Bourne grew up in Sioux City and attended The University of Tulsa, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He completed his medical degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa and finished his internship and residency at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois.

Recovery Center | Mental Health

Taya Vonnahme serves as the Director of the Recovery Center at Manning Regional Healthcare Center. She is also a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who sees patients every Wednesday, providing psychiatric medication management in the Specialty Clinic. She works closely with medical staff, nursing staff, and the interdisciplinary team to assess patients, manage psychotropic medications, monitor treatment effectiveness, and ensure continuity of care. 

She also assists in the ER, Acute, and Family Practice Clinic, working Saturdays in the clinic. Taya is a Manning local and has worked in various nursing areas throughout her career at MRHC, including the Recovery Center. 

With Taya’s background in nursing and the medical side of addiction and health she is able to apply her medical background combined with addiction studies and bring a new aspect of leadership to MRHC, something that sets the Recovery Center apart from others.
